MEMBERS of a social club for older people were given a VIP visit this week when Ellesmere’s mayor dropped by.
Councillor Anne Wignall, in her second year as mayor, called into Ellesmere’s Thursday Social Club at the town hall in Willow Street to meet the members and find out more about it.
Volunteers run a full day of activities and serve morning coffee, a two-course lunch, and afternoon tea with cake.
Every week there is entertainment, perhaps a speaker or a demonstration, games, crafts and reminiscence, and seated exercise once a month. Music and sing-a-longs are an important part of the mix.
Cllr Wignall said she was delighted to visit the club.

She said: “This is a very friendly club where there is plenty to do but also time just to sit and chat.
“It was lovely to meet the members and the volunteers who work very hard to ensure that everyone has a good time.”
The club starts at 9am until 2.30pm and transport from home is provided with the total daily cost of £15.
The first day is a taster visit free of charge and a family member is warmly invited to come along too.
